BARRE TOWN – Marylin K. “Sammy” Dwyer, 77, of Sunrise Road, died early Wednesday morning, March 4, 2015, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. Her family had been at her bedside.
Born April 27, 1937 in Mineola, New York, she was the daughter of Platt and Ione (Shelter) Kissam.
She graduated from Garden City (Long Island, New York) High School in 1955 and received her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Vermont Junior College in Montpelier in 1957.
On April 27, 1957, which was her birthday, she married Merle R. Dwyer in Whitehall, New York. Since 1958, they have resided in South Barre and at their present home since 1970.
“Sammy” will be remembered as a teacher’s aide at the Barre Town Elementary School for several years.
Crossword puzzles, cooking, gardening, knitting, rescuing animals and the coast of Maine were things she enjoyed and loved.
Besides her husband, Merle, she is survived by her daughter, Laurie Sabens, and her husband, Kip, of Barre Town and her son Steven Dwyer and his wife Mary of Cape Elizabeth Maine and her grandson Jordan Sabens, also of Barre Town.
Also surviving is her brother Platt Tredwell and his wife Evelyn of Everett, Washington.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Her life will be remembered with calling hours on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
