BARRE – Mary S. O’Dell, 73, of South Main Street, died Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at her residence.
She was born on February 23, 1943 in Bennington and attended local schools.
Mary had never been married and she formerly lived at the Avery Apartments in East Barre before moving to the Tilden House.
In earlier years, she had been a factory worker, a nurse’s aide, had done custodial work, worked at the Hedding United Methodist Church in Barre, for the Vermont State Library, and was a security guard at the Capital Candy Company in Barre.
Mary was proud that she had maintained her sobriety from 1971 to 2016. She was a member of the Dr. Bob Group of Alcoholics Anonymous. Over the years, Mary provided friendship, caring, and support to hundreds of people in recovery.
She very much loved her dog and loyal companion Sky.
She leaves behind many friends in the area. Special friends, Bill Gonyaw and Orlando predeceased her.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. There are no calling hours. Interment will take place in the Hope Cemetery in Barre.
