WILLIAMSTOWN – Marjorie “Marge” Taft Gomez, 89, a long-time Williamstown resident passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Vermont Respite House in Colchester with her loving family at her bedside.
Marge was born just over the hill at Randolph Hospital to Harold C. and Ruth (Howe) Taft and grew up along with her brother, on her parent’s farm in East Brookfield. She graduated from Spaulding High School in 1947 and later from the Vermont Academy of Beauty Culture in Burlington where she studied to be a hairdresser.
While attending a baseball game in Williamstown with friends, she met WWII veteran Louis “Lou” Gomez, a resident of the community. After the game he took her to a movie and the rest as they say is history! They married on May 21, 1949 and lived “under the eaves” in a little apartment in Williamstown. After several apartments, they bought their home on Construction Hill in Williamstown and went on to raise their family of two boys and two girls. They were married 61 years.
Marge was a member of the United Federated Church of Williamstown, the Order of the Eastern Star and a local sewing club. She loved playing cards, games, bowling and square dancing. Most of all Marge enjoyed many summers at the family camp on Lake Champlain and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her two daughters Wanda Craig and her husband, David, of Montpelier and Sherry O’Leary and her husband, Paul, of Essex; her two sons Jerry Gomez and his wife, Pamela of Marcy, NY and Scott Gomez and his wife, Shirley of Milton; seven grandchildren, Corey Gomez and his wife Kristen, Nathan Gomez, Damian Gomez and his wife Kimberly, Brittany Craig and her wife Amanda Martin; Christopher Craig, and Matthew and Ryan O’Leary; three great grandsons, Landon and Reece Gomez and Junot Martin-Craig; three great granddaughters Lydie, Madison and Ellery Gomez; and her brother Ronald C. Taft.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Louis Gomez, and her brother Harold C. Taft, Jr.
