BARRE CITY – Marion Eliza Martel, 98, a long-time resident of North Barre Manor, died Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center where she had been a patient for almost twelve years.
Born in South Barre, on June 27, 1919, she was the daughter of Emery and Julia (Rabidoux) Landry. She had attended the former Ayers Street Elementary School.
On February 24, 1936 she married Ernest A. Martel at St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre City. Most of their married life had been spent in Plainfield and later in Floral City, Florida. Ernest died December 24, 1984.
Most of her working life had been spent at the former Rock of Ages Capacitor Plant, also in Barre.
Her special interests were jig saw puzzles, gardening, traveling and collecting ceramic birds.
Survivors include her son Albert J. “Skip” Martel and his wife, Georgiana of Gore, Virginia as well as eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Loretta “Candy” Taylor and two sons Ernest “Stub” Martell and Rodney Lee Martel.
Marion’s wishes were that there be no services planned. Inurnment will be in St. Monica’s Cemetery.
