BERLIN – Marion Beverly Atherton, 84, a former Williamstown resident, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin where she had resided for several years.
Born on November 22, 1930 in Montpelier, she was the daughter of Harold and Juanita (Morway) Douglas. She attended elementary school in Montpelier and Montpelier High School.
On January 14, 1950, Marion married Reginald F. Atherton. For many years, they lived in Williamstown. He passed away on July 7, 2002.
Marion first worked for the former Sprague Electric Company in Barre as an assembly worker. Later, she worked in home health care as a Licensed Nurse’s Assistant.
She attended the First Baptist Church of Barre. She enjoyed playing the guitar, camping, playing cards, and country music.
She is survived by her five daughters, Regina Atherton of Lebanon, NH, Deborah Ennis and her husband, David of Sunderland, Sheila Palmer and her husband, Craig of East Montpelier, Tonya Wilson and her husband, Ray of Shaftsbury, and Melinda Gabree and her husband, Roger of Williamstown; thirteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Douglas of California, Robert Douglas and Harold Douglas, Jr., both of Burlington; two sisters, Wanda Malloy of Florida and Nancy Davis of Randolph; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Stephen Douglas and two sisters, Harriet Thygesen and Ruth Frazier.
Her memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Randolph Center with the interment to follow the service. Family and friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre on Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
