Marie R. Wallace

ARIZONA – Marie Rose Wallace, 92, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 in Sun City with her loved ones by her side.

Born on July 24, 1928 at Fanny Allen Hospital in Colchester, VT, she was the daughter of Bernadette and Mario Calevro.

Marie was married 4 times, including re-marrying her 3 rd husband, Charlie Wallace, whom she lived with in Sun City, AZ until his passing.

She was a spunky, independent woman who loved to cook, swim, socialize, play slots at the casino, travel (her favorite trips were to the beach and to Las Vegas), but most of all she enjoyed just being with family.

In her earlier years, spending time with family on picnics to Shady Rill and Groton was something she truly enjoyed.    Marie grew up working in her father’s restaurants “The Dugout” and “The Riverbend”.  After working in the family business, she and her husband Charlie started their own restaurant, “Chez Marie” in Plainfield.   After selling that business, she moved back to Barre, to be with her children.  Later she would make a move to Worcester, MA with Charlie and they would eventually move to Sun City, AZ.  After Charlie’s passing, she moved in with her grandson, Shawn.

Marie would spend her summers visiting her family back East (Bernie and Jeff in Vermont; Tina and family in Maine; Brenda and family; and Maria and Chuck all in Vermont).    She always said her best times were spent with her family.   Marie held a special place in her heart for her grandson Shawn, as she was able to live with him for 17+ years and experience her great-grandchildren (Camden 12, Avery 6) on a daily basis, and watch them grow up and play hockey.  She had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved to spend time with during her summer travels, and even when they were apart, she always had them in her heart and on her mind.

Survivors include her children Bernadette “Bernie” Babin and her husband, Jeffrey Canas of Arizona along with Bernie’s son, Shawn Babin and his wife, Cori and children Camden and Avery; Michele Burrington and her husband, Steve of Massachusetts; Brenda Cassani and her husband, Nick and children Casey and Corey; and Bonnie Knox and son, Justin all of St. Albans, VT; Tina Angelico and her husband, Frank of Lisbon Falls, ME and children Frank, Kayla, and Jake; her daughter-in-law Patty Lafayette of Barre and children Michael, Marcus, and Melissa and step-son Little Larry Mose; and Maria Lyford - who was like a daughter to her -  and her husband, Chuck of Barre, VT and children Peter and Chas; and her sister Jeannie Abare and her husband, Reggie of Barre, VT as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends, whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Larry Lafayette; and her brothers Richard and Jerry Calevro and her sister Sylvia Bean.

Marie was always telling everyone to live their life, share their love, and do whatever made them happy.  She always was the heart and soul of the family and will forever remain a cherished part in all of our hearts.

The graveside service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in Hope Cemetery in Barre.    There are no calling hours.
