WASHINGTON - Margaret A. Pearlstein, 87, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, November 26, 2018, in the home of her Personal Care Provider, Carol Merchant.

Born May 13, 1931, in Manchester, N.H, she was the daughter of Vere E. and Helene (Wheeler) Pearlstein. Margaret moved to Barre when she was 2 years old. She attended the Barre City school system and lived in Barre the remainder of her life.

Margaret attended Project Independence as well as The Learning Network, where she took several classes. She was also a member of a weekly sewing circle and many of her holiday gifts came from this hobby. Additionally, she studied art as a student of Jim Lundt and her artwork has been featured in a story in the Times Argus . Several of her paintings are permanently displayed at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Barre and have also been displayed at the State Capitol in Montpelier.

Her hobbies included doing puzzles (of horses), bowling, baking, dancing, singing, and swimming. Margaret’s favorite life-long pastime was photographing horses on her many trips in Vermont and Massachusetts. She maintained an extensive collection of her photographs in albums. She was an avid lover of cats as well as horses.

Margaret was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Barre for over 80 years. She served on the Alter Guild for many years and also served on the Vestry. She baked cookies weekly for church coffee hour over many years.

Survivors include her brother Richard Pearlstein and his wife, Deanna of Amherst, MA; as well as eight nieces and nephews Bonnie Baker of Austin, TX; Alexander (Annie) of Kurtistown, HI; Alice Erbe of Monroe, LA; Andrew (Danielle) Erbe of Lafayette, LA; Gregory (Rosanna) Pearlstein of College Station, TX; Corey Pearlstein of Portland, OR; Elise Springer (Robin Price) of Middletown, CT; and Laurie (Burton) Thibodeaux of Spring, TX. She will be lovingly remembered by her great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Janet and Emily and her brother George.

The family especially wishes to thank her caregivers, Carol and Steve Merchant, for providing her with a warm and loving home and devotion until her final hours.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in The Church of the Good Shepherd, 39 Washington Street, Barre. Following the service, interment will be made in the Hope Cemetery in Barre. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
