Barre – Margaret E. Kiniry, 87, a longtime South Barre resident, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Born on May 7, 1938, in Worcester, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Scottish immigrants John and Isobel (Lawson) Reid. She attended elementary school in Worcester and graduated from South High School in 1956. Margaret was a champion highland dancer accompanied by the Worcester Kilty Band, of which her father was the Pipe Major.

She graduated from Maryville College (Tennessee) with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and later earned her Masters of Education from the University of Vermont.

On August 20, 1960, Margaret married Bruce Kiniry in Worcester, MA. The two eventually made their home in Central Vermont, where they raised their two children. Margaret started her teaching career at this time. She spent many years as an educator at U-32 High School, Montpelier Middle School, and eventually Spaulding Vocational and Technical School until her retirement.

Margaret was a Sunday school teacher and longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in downtown Barre.

Survivors include her son Reid, his wife Pierce, her daughter Susan, her sister Lillian Reid of Gardnersville, NV, and her beloved grandchildren Isobel and John.

She was predeceased by her husband Bruce and her sister Marion Talbot.

Per Margaret’s wishes there are no services. Donations to Lincoln House in her name are appreciated.
