Margaret Jean Florucci Grenier, 86, of Central Vermont peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, in a warm, comfortable environment in the Hospice Unit at Central Vermont Medical Center.
Margaret “Madge” was the fourth of nine children born to the late Elisio and Minerva Florucci in Barre, Vermont on January 24, 1937.
She spent the majority of her life in Barre having a lively childhood playing with the “North -End” Gang and graduating from Spaulding High School in 1954. Throughout her high school years, she worked as a cashier at the Grand Union Grocery store where she met her future soulmate, Norman L. Grenier.
Norm and Madge were married on August 31, 1957, and lived together throughout the Central Vermont area for an incredible 66 years last residing at Heaton Woods Residence in Montpelier, Vermont.
Madge was immensely proud of her Italian heritage, being raised a Vermonter, and most of all her family. She loved growing up in a large family and told many stories of times spent with her siblings on Berlin Street in Barre. Madge remained close to her sisters, Betsy and Kathy, up until her final days.
She participated in a variety of community services with her many years of involvement in the Methodist Church, being a volunteer at the Central Vermont Medical Center Gift Shop and serving on the Barre City School Board. Of course, her service on the School Board was due to her strong devotion to her four children. Madge thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, their many friends and their friend’s friends. While she would humor you with her unfiltered style, you couldn’t help but love her many tales, facial expressions, and that amazing infectious laugh. Madge will be missed by many.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Norm Grenier of Montpelier; her four children Bart Grenier and his wife, Leslie of Boston, MA; Brian Grenier and his partner, Jacqueline Pridemore of Barre; Betsy Grenier Pecor and her husband, Christopher of Sarasota, FL; and Brent Grenier and his wife, Tracie of Winooski; her seven grandchildren Jordan, Gabriel, Courtney, Kellan, Ali, Bailey and Camber and her two great-grandchildren Braxton and Peyton as well as her siblings Alexander “Sandy” Florucci of Barre, Betsy Pierce of Barre, Alan Florucci of Milton, and Kathy Santa Maria and her husband, Nicholas of Barre.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her siblings James Florucci, Jack Florucci, Eleanor Carpenter, and Peter Florucci.
A brief service to honor her life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Immediately following the service there will be a Celebration of Life at the Canadian Club of Barre, 414 East Montpelier Road, Barre.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heaton Woods Residence, 1205 North Avenue, Burlington, VT 05408.
