BARRE TOWN - Peggy Haas Emmons, 77, of Barre Town, died on Sunday, July 6th, 2025, after her second battle with cancer. She fought hard for several months thanks to the care from the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, Vermont.
Born September 9, 1947, in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of Otto and Marian (Wirthlin) Haas. She attended elementary school in Verona, N.J., graduated from Verona High School, and studied art at Vermont College in Montpelier, VT.
On October 29th, 1966, she married Mark Howard Emmons, and they moved to Barre, Vermont where they later built a house in Barre Town and raised four boys.
Peggy loved to craft and paint landscapes and travel in her earlier years. Peggy ran a daycare for years and later worked various jobs in retail before working for the state of Vermont for several years as a Legislative Assistant until she retired in 2013. Peggy always knew how to get a laugh with her witty sense of humor and could always be found with a glowing smile.
Spending time with her family was always important to Peggy. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother known as Meme. Her favorite memories were seasonal visits to PA and NJ to spend time with her brothers and their families.
Survivors include her four sons, Todd and Veronica, of Barre, VT; Dean and Michele, of Barre, VT; Jeremy and Judy, of Barre, VT, and Ryan and Megan, of Essex, VT. Also survived by grandchildren; Jarrod (Otto), Jaylynn, Grady, Luke, Riley, Connor and Carson.
She was predeceased by her parents Otto and Marian (Wirthlin) Haas, and brothers James and Thomas.
Upon Peggy’s request, there will not be any calling hours or service planned.
