PLAINFIELD - Margaret Ann "Peggy" Achilles, 77, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 after a long, very courageous battle with cancer, with her family by her bedside in her beloved sunroom.
Born July 9, 1942 in Brockton, MA, she was the daughter of Russell and Jean (Doleva) Sturtevant. Raised in Halifax, MA Peggy enjoyed her time on the family farm where she loved to ride her horses around their cranberry bogs. She fondly remembered her summers at the family cottage in Mashpee, MA spending time with her friends and family.
It was no surprise when Peggy decided to become a nurse as compassionate and caring as she was. She graduated with her Nursing degree from Faulkner Hospital in Boston. On July 25, 1964 She married Lyndon Achilles in Halifax, MA. They later moved to VT where they raised their children. Peggy loved gardening and cooking many of her evenings consisted of spending time tending to her flowers and vegetables, canning, pickling, and baking. She was an amazing cook and baker as well as an avid quilter and went all over the state with her quilting friend Betty Grenon, to pick out just the right fabrics for her masterpieces.
Early in Peggy's nursing career she worked at the Barre City Hospital and McFarland House before becoming a nurse manager at Woodridge until her retirement. She worked for the Central Vermont Medical Center for over 35 years. She touched many, many lives with her compassion. Peggy's family was her world. She loved watching and hearing all about her children and grandchildren's activities and achievements. She made Christmas magical to all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Lyndon; her three children Shaun Bernatchy (Bill Amell), Scott Achilles (Cherie), and Seth Achilles (Rhonda); seven grandchildren, Aleya, Asia, Katie, TJ, Cooper, Andrew, and Avery who will miss her dearly; her brothers Robert (Carol) and James (Beverly); and her sister Shirley (David) as well as nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
