WILLIAMSTOWN – Majel L. Davis, 92, of The Gardens passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Central Vermont Medical Center with her family at her bedside.
Born on June 19, 1932, in East Corinth, she was the daughter of Clifford A. and Geneva C. (Bowen) French. She attended local elementary schools and graduated from Bradford Academy.
On October 16, 1950, she married George H. Davis in Bradford, VT. Following their marriage, they made their home in East Corinth, West Topsham and Websterville before settling in Williamstown in 1991. George passed away in June of 2010.
Majel was employed by the Bowen-Hunter Bobbin Mill starting in 1950 until she became an Avon sales representative in 1962, she later joined the cafeteria staff at the Barre Town Elementary and Middle School in 1968 until 1995 when she spent the next ten years cleaning apartments for the elderly.
She was a member of the East Corinth and West Topsham Mother’s clubs, the Websterville Home Dem club, and the Barre Town Parent Teacher Association.
In her spare time, she enjoyed playing games and cards, dancing – she organized Al Monty’s square-dancing programs while at the Barre Town School, parties, time spent with her friends, and crocheting, as well as family gatherings, particularly watching her grandson’s racing cars and watching her grandchildren’s sports events.
Survivors include her daughters Sandra (Davis) McTaggart and her husband, Ron and Raquel Davis, and Kitty (Davis) Sweet and her husband Sid all of Williamstown, VT; her grandchildren Tina Spooner of Williamstown, VT; Tammy Timson of Warwick, Rhode Island; Danny Emerson of East Ryegate, VT; Tara Emerson of Williamstown, VT; Sidney Sweet, Jr. and his wife Jill, of Williamstown, VT; Shannon Sweet and his wife Kim of Williamstown, VT; Tony Hedges, II, of Williamstown, VT; Jeremy Hedges of Barre, VT; Kenneth Davis of Corinth, VT; Lena Cormier of Bradford, VT; Stephanie Pike of Newbury, VT; and Josslyn Goslant, of Barre, VT; 28 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren as well as her sister Sally Osgood of Williamstown, VT and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband George Davis, her daughter Candace (Davis) Hedges, her grandson Duane Emerson, her brother Babe French and brother Ernest French, her great-grandson Cameron Hedges and great-great granddaughter Paige Priestley.
The graveside service to honor and celebrate Majel’s life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the West Bradford Cemetery, 180 Hackett Hill Road, Bradford, VT followed by a gathering at the Bradford Masonic Hall. There are no calling hours.
