SOUTH BARRE – Madeline Mae Shute, 86, a longtime resident of Bridge Street, died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center in Barre City. Her family was at her bedside. Prior to entering the nursing home, Madeline was a resident at the Fortier Community Care Home, also in Barre City.
Born May 20, 1929, in Randolph, she was the daughter of Clayton and Hattie (Lee) Tucker. She was a graduate of Randolph High School, and has attended Castleton VT State College.
On November 24, 1950 she married Glendon A. Shute in Randolph. Following their marriage they lived in Randolph, and since 1965 in Barre Town. Glendon died June 3, 1989 in South Barre.
Madeline had been employed as a grocery clerk and head cashier at the former Howard’s Market in South Barre for over 30 years and for a brief time at Hannaford’s.
We will remember her for her guitar playing and singing and taking friends and family to medical appointments, and always being available to help someone.
She was a longtime and active member of the Websterville Baptist Church and had served her Church in many activities.
Survivors include her son, Gary Shute and his wife Nancy of East Barre; 3 grandchildren Douglas and Amanda Shute, Thomas Shute and Kristin Provost; 4 great grandchildren, Alexia and Sydney Shute, and Berlin and Sierra Provost; nieces and nephews, and more distant relatives.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Glendon, and her brothers, Floyd, Ernest and Richard Tucker.
Madeline’s life will be honored and celebrated at the Websterville Baptist Church on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
Later inurnment will be made in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Randolph.
There are no calling hours.
