BARRE - Lucille Clara Dodge Campbell Hoyt passed away peacefully at the age of 82 with her family around her on January 29, 2017.
Born in Randolph on August 28, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Wallace Carrol Dodge and Gertrude (Larkin) Dodge Roberts. She grew up in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School in June 1951, at the age of 16. She was the valedictorian of her class. While in school, she enjoyed her studies, playing the piano, one-act plays and excelled in basketball, scoring 40 points in one game against Plainfield. After graduation she worked at National Life Insurance Co.
In 1954 she married John “Buddy” Campbell. They lived in Graniteville and Barre where she spent her time taking care of their three children. Buddy died of heart failure in 1961. She had various jobs until 1967, when she went to work for the South Barre Granite Co. as bookkeeper. The business closed in 1982 and she felt very fortunate to start work at Anderson-Friberg Co., retiring there in 1995 to spend time with her husband.
In 1962 she met Arthur “Tim” Hoyt. They later married and were together over 50 years. They enjoyed sports, especially Little League Baseball and later the Barre Men’s Softball Team. They also spent many winters in Bradenton, FL, where they made many new friends.
Lucille enjoyed music, knitting, ceramics, word puzzles, the Maine Coast and going out to eat. She also liked family picnics and parties, being around her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Post #790 and the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #10 of Barre. She was a past member of the Graniteville Presbyterian Church and the Barre Congregational Church.
Lucille is loved and mourned by her children, sons, Alexander (Diane) Campbell and Charles Campbell; daughters, Kathryn (Tom) McKenna, Carolyn (William) Ix, Kelly Hoyt, and step-daughter, Dawn (Paul) LaCroix; her grandchildren, Melissa Campbell, Johnny Campbell and Andrew McKenna, Billy and Tim Ix, Joey and Jessie Taplin and step-grandchildren, Brian and Kerri O’Connor, Jason and Jimmy LaCroix; her one remarkable great-grandson, Jacson Campbell, as well as step great-grandchildren: Addison, Gavin and Avery O’Connor, Meghan and Jake Couture and Lily and Evelyn LaCroix; her brother, Gary (Patti) Dodge of Rochester, NY; her half-brother, Dwayne (Donna) Roberts of Mesa, AZ; and her brother-in-law, Tony (Gail) Campbell of Barre, VT.
Lucille was predeceased by her parents, her brother Neal and his wife, Kathy, also by several of her Campbell in-laws their spouses, her aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at noon in the Barre Congregational Church, 35 Church Street, Barre, VT by the Reverend Dr. David Vanderlinde Abernathy.
