MONTPELIER - Lucille Herschel passed away at home in Westview Meadows on October 2, 2015.
Born March 5, 1921 in Johnson, VT, she was the daughter of Josie (Sargent) and I. Glenn Jones. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1939 and attended nursing school in St. Johnsbury, VT and Jersey City Medical Center, Jersey City, N.J., graduating in 1942.
Lucille was first married to J. Robert Young, who was killed a year and a half later while serving in the Naval Air Force.
From 1943 to 1950, Lucille worked at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, MA and St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, MA. In 1950, she married Winston Moore and they made their home on Delmont Ave, Barre, for thirty years. They divorced in 1980. She then married C. Andrew Herschel in Montpelier, where they lived for twenty-three years until his death on August 9, 2003.
She was a long time member of the Barre Congregational Church. Her professional organizations had been Vermont Nurses Assoc. and American Nurses Assoc. She was also a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow.
She is survived by a daughter, Melissa Moore and her husband Andrew Schlaich of Baltimore, MD, and a son, W. Glenn Moore and his long time companion Karen Johnson of Barre, VT, and two step-children, James Herschel of Cinnaminson, New Jersey and Elisabeth Gambler of Montpelier, VT.
