EAST BARRE – Lucille S. DeForge, 82, of Mill Street, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at her home with her loving family at her bedside.
Born on April 24, 1935, she was the daughter of John and Vivian (York) Smith. She attended elementary and high school at St. Michael’s School in Montpelier, graduating with the class of 1953.
On September 18, 1954 she married James DeForge in the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Montpelier. He passed away in February of 1995.
After their marriage, Lucille and James settled in Montpelier before moving to East Barre. They lived most of their married lives in Orange.
Lucille was employed at the Gary Home in Montpelier and then for many years she worked at Rowan Court Nursing Home. She was a member of the St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in East Barre and the Ladies of St. Anne. In her spare time, she loved dancing, shopping, cooking, watching Nascar and Red Sox and most of all spending time with family and friends at her camp in Isle LaMotte.
Survivors include her sons James DeForge of Barre; Robert DeForge and his wife, Valerie of Barre; her daughters Susan Comstock and her husband, Jerry of Barre; Debra Fraser and her partner Jim Foss of Elmore; and Lisa Marie DeForge and her partner, Richard Plude, Jr., of Barre; nine grandchildren Jamie DeForge, Linda DeForge, Robert DeForge, Jr., Adam DeForge, Jerry J. Comstock, Jennifer Collins, Lauren Fraser, Amanda Flynn, and Ronald Harper; twelve great-grandchildren; as well as her siblings John Smith of Venice, FL; Betty Griffith and her husband, Jesse of Williamstown; Donald Smith of East Montpelier, and Lois Acebo of East Barre.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James DeForge; and her companion Larry Jacques.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
