BARRE – Lorraine Mary MacLeod, 87, of Windywood Road passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. .
Born on August 29, 1932 in Fairhaven, MA, she was the daughter of Horace Edward and Sara Mary (Monroe) Noble. She moved to Vermont when she was four years old, where her family began working on various dairy farms. Her family settled into their own farm, “Noble Farms” in Cabot where they farmed together for 23 years.
On October 19, 1966 Lorraine married Harold “Bud” MacLeod, the love of her life. Following their marriage, they moved to East Montpelier and farmed on “Macnoble Farms” for 15 years. In their retirement Bud and Lorraine moved to Barton and became avid golfers. Bud passed away in 1989. Lorraine moved to Barre in 1992.
Lorraine was a beloved mother and grandmother. She never met a stranger and was a great friend to many. Over the years she opened her home to those in need of a family and took them under her wing. She was happiest when she was on the farm, driving tractors and feeding the calves. She was a teacher in 4-H for many years. In her later years playing games with her friends brought her much joy.
Survivors include her daughter, Lorrie “Jeannie” MacLeod and her partner, Dave Wendt; her grandson Sean MacLeod Pagal of Barre; and her brother Ernest Noble of Gaylord, MI as well as five nieces.
In addition to her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her brother Edward Noble and her sister Mildred Noble Ibey.
The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
