WILLIAMSTOWN – Lorna Gay Perkins, 82, of the Chelsea Road, died Sunday morning, August 30, 2015, at her home after an illness of almost a year. Her family had been at her bedside.
Born September 29, 1932 in Lower Websterville, she was the daughter of Arthur and Thelma (Violette) Gay and had attended the Lower Websterville Elementary School.
On December 28, 1952 she married Donald R. Perkins in North Strafford. Most of their married life had been spent at their home on Chelsea Road. He died February 11, 1982.
She had worked for the former Sprague Electric Company in Barre City, the North Montpelier Woolen Mills, the Malden Mills in Barre Town and retired from the Ethan Allen Furniture Company in Randolph as an inspector in 2004.
Sherri’s Jubilee, dancing and singing, casino gambling, playing pitch, socializing, covered bridging, crafts, and life and the people in it were things she loved.
Her memberships included the Women of the Moose, the Barre Canadian Club, and the Auxiliary to the Barre American Legion Post #10, and MacKenzie-Webster VFW Post #790, and she will be long remembered for collecting beverage can tabs to raise funds for the Shrine Crippled Children’s Hospital and dialysis program.
Survivors include her son, Barry Perkins, and daughters Fonda Perkins, both of Williamstown; Linda Cheney of Palm Bay, Florida, Laura Grandfield and husband, Malcolm, of Barre City and Tina Lovely and her husband, Joseph, of Orange; 17 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
Lorna was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Donald, her son Daniel Perkins, who was Fonda’s twin, granddaughter Jennifer Perkins, and her long-time companion, Bob St. John.
Her life will be honored and celebrated on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
Later inurnment will be made in the Spring Road Cemetery in Tunbridge.
