Linda Putney

WEBSTERVILLE – Linda Putney, 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

Born August 4, 1948 in Barre, she was the daughter of Gardner and Margaret (Hartley) Batten.   Linda grew up in Waits River and attended Bradford Academy. Following high school, Linda was a proud graduate of the Thompson School of Practical Nursing.

On August 7, 1971 she married the love of her life, Roland Putney at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in East Barre. Making their home on Church Hill Road in Websterville, where you would often find Linda sitting on her porch feeding the birds and squirrels or enjoying her family dinners (even if her dog Cocoa got more food than we did).

Linda worked as an LPN at the Barre City Hospital, and later an as ICU Nurse at the Central Vermont Medical Center, where she retired from in 2009. As a lifelong nurse, always putting her heart, mind and soul into her smallest acts. Perhaps today, in honor of our mom, you would do an unexpected act of kindness and pay it forward.

An avid sports fan, Linda loved her Boston Red Sox. Sundays were football, especially the New England Patriots (even though Linda thought the referees could hear her yelling and would often disagree with their calls) she also enjoyed winning her Nascar racing pools. Her fond memories of camping, hunting, and anything wildlife, Linda loved her bucks and black bears. Perhaps one of our favorite memories were her bluest eyes and warmest smiles.

Survivors include her husband, Roland of Websterville; her children Brian and his wife, Renee of Williamstown; Barbara and her partner, Bill of Berlin; Brent and his partner, Jamie of Websterville; her two grandchildren Ethan and Samantha of Berlin; her brothers Leslie Batten and his wife, Cindy of Londonderry, NH, and Randy Batten and his wife, Lorie of Waits River, VT; her sister Mary Batten and her wife, Lynette of Concord, VT as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Virginia Batten.

The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the New Hope United Methodist Church, Waits River, VT. There are no calling hours.
