Linda S. Phillips

EAST MONTPELIER – Linda Smith Phillips, 69, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Her loving family was at her bedside.

Born on June 17, 1947 in Montpelier, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Erma (Smith) Washburn. She attended elementary school in Montpelier and was a graduate of Montpelier High School in 1965, where she was part of the cheerleading squad for all four years.

During high school she met the love of her life, Albert Steven Phillips, at a dance in the Montpelier Recreation Center. They were married in Montpelier on May 6, 1965 and spent 51 wonderful years together. The two made their home in East Montpelier for many years where they raised two sons Scott and Brent.

After raising her two boys, she went to work for New England Telephone and eventually Verizon, where she worked for seventeen years before her retirement. She also was employed at the Times Argus for 13 years.

Linda had many hobbies and interests throughout her life, the most important being her dogs and cats, walking and exercising every day, going dancing, watching her beloved Patriots and Red Sox, admiring the birds around the feeders at her home, spending summers in North Hero on Lake Champlain and most importantly being with her beloved family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Albert; two sons, Scott Phillips and his wife, Kelly, of East Montpelier and Brent Phillips and his wife, Adrienne, of Plainfield, NH; two grandchildren, Brock Phillips of East Montpelier; and Alicia Laferriere and her husband, Cory, of Barre Town; as well as a great-granddaughter, Quinn Lilian Laferriere. She also leaves a brother, John Emery Washburn, and a sister, Merle “Tootie” McDermott.

A celebration and time of fellowship to honor Linda’s life will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 in the Canadian Club of Barre, on Vermont Route 14, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
