Linda Willard Burdett

MIDDLEBURY - Linda Willard Burdett, 93, of Middlebury, died on Friday, March 12, 2015 with
her loving family at her side.
She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 22, 1921, the daughter of Grace Van
Evera Willard and George Gale Willard. She lived in Des Moines, Iowa; Pasadena, California;
Detroit, Michigan, and Evanston, Illinois, as well as New York City, New York. She graduated
from Evanston Township High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton
College in Norton, Massachusetts. Linda also acquired her master’s degree, and RN, from Yale
School of Nursing in New Haven, Connecticut. She was a nurse at Huggins Hospital in
Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, at Yale New Haven Hospital, Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin,
Vermont, and Porter Hospital in Middlebury, Vermont.
In 1947 Linda married and became the devoted and loving wife of Robert Munsey Burdett in Swampscott, MA. She was predeceased by her husband in 1993. They raised four children in Braintree, MA, Essex Center, VT, and Barre, VT: Katherine Roesler and her husband, Robert, of
South Burlington, VT, Elizabeth Burdett, of Ketchikan and Girdwood, AK, Laurie Stuart and her
Husband, Scott, of Queensbury, NY, and James Burdett and his wife, Maria, of Ithaca, NY. She
had eight beloved grandchildren: Jared, Nicholas, Caitrin, Jed, Molly, Wesley, Kevin and Emily.
She loved her nieces and nephews in the Parton family: George, Patty, Betsey, Barbara and
Stephen, their spouses, and their children. She also loved her many friends.
Linda was an avid sports enthusiast, both participating and watching: skiing, tennis, and golf.
She directed many church plays while in Barre (The Music Man, Bye Bye Birdie, and Green
Willow). She did many volunteer jobs: Guardian Ad Litem, Round Robin, and Ilsley Library.
She loved to read, watch movies, plays, concerts, play bridge, go out for lunch, and converse with
her friends.
Linda’s life will be honored and celebrated on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 2:30 pm at The
Residence at Otter Creek (350 Lodge Road, Middlebury, VT) under the disposition of her family.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Linda W. Burdett Nursing Scholarship Fund
(c/o The Guidance Department; Middlebury Union High School; 42 Court Street; Middlebury, VT
05753). The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
