BARRE – Lillian E. Clark, 93, of North Barre Manor passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
Born June 1, 1926 in Barre, she was the daughter of Brydon and Gladys (Taplin) Chase. Lillian attended East Barre elementary school and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1944.
After high school, she worked for many years at the JJ Newbury Store in Barre as a salesclerk and later in the office as a bookkeeper until beginning work at the Granite Savings Bank in April of 1969 in the bookkeeping department until her retirement in May of 1988.
On July 30, 1946 she married Max Clark in Barre. Following their marriage, they made their home in Websterville, where they lived for most of their married life. Max passed away on February 5, 2000.
Lillian was a member of the East Barre Congregational Church and served as a trustee, deaconess and in her early years she taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Groton Pond Association and the West Shore Access Association.
In her spare time, Lillian enjoyed time spent with her family – especially her grandson, her cottage on Groton Pond, as well as walking, reading, and playing cards.
Survivors include her daughter Brenda Carpenter and her husband, Anthony of Barre; her grandson, Ryan Carpenter of New Hampshire; her sisters-in-law Annie Chase and Ann Chase as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Thomas Chase, Henry Chase, Preston Chase, Raymond Chase, Elwin Chase, Lloyd Chase, Nelson Chase, Lawrence Chase, Grover Chase and Bertha Pickering.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in the Old Brick Church in East Montpelier. Following the service inurnment will take place in the Wilson Cemetery in Websterville. There are no calling hours.
