BARRE CITY – Leona R. Philip, 83, a longtime Barre resident, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. Her loving family was with her at her bedside.
Born on June 1, 1935 on the family farm in Washington, she was the daughter of Simeon and Hazel (Pickett) Taylor. She was the youngest daughter of the combined families of the Taylor’s and the Weeks’. Leona was also the last of the family.
Leona attended Barre Town schools in East Barre and Websterville and was a graduate of Spaulding High School in 1953.
On May 22, 1966 she married the love of her life, William T. Philip, Sr. They spent 47 wonderful years together before Bill’s passing on October 10, 2013.
Throughout her life she had many hobbies and interests, but the one’s that were most dear to her were spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting and reading.
Leona leaves three daughters Joleen Fox of Barre City, Jocelyn Beane of Richmond, Darleen Nelson of East Barre; five grandsons, Jason and Joshua Beane of St. Albans, Shawn Chase of upstate NY, Eric Chase of Berlin and Jesse Nelson of Morrisville. She also leaves seven great-grandchildren, Kristen, Derrick, Grace, Gwen, Julia, Ryan and Jordan as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides Bill and her parents, she was predeceased by five sisters and six brothers.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Leona’s life will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. There are no calling hours.
