WILLIAMSTOWN – Leon Z. Marsha, 89, of Main Street, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Barre Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Barre.
Born September 9, 1927 in Barre, he was the son of Guy and Sarah (Meyette) Marsha.
Leon attended local schools. In 1945, he joined the Navy serving in the Seabees as a Seaman Second Class in the 90 th Navy Construction Battalion based out of Sampson, NY. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Vermont.
On January 24, 1948, he married Florence Harvey in Plainfield, VT. Following their marriage, they lived in Williamstown their entire married life.
Leon was first employed as a roofer with Burrell Roofing in Williamstown and then as Parts Manager at Twin Town Volkswagen in Montpelier.
In his spare time, Leon loved to entertain folks by telling stories. He also loved to hunt and fish, enjoying canoeing and travelling to Maine. He and Florence travelled extensively through the United States and Canada in their retirement years.
Survivors include his children, Michael Marsha and his wife, Susan of Vershire; William Marsha and his wife, Bonnie of Orange; and Sherry Marsha of Island Pond; six grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; as well as his sister-in-law Doris Marsha of Barre.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Irene LaRochelle, Geraldine Jackman, LeRoy and Richard Marsha.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held later at the convenience of his family.
