WILLIAMSTOWN - Our beloved mother, sister, gram, Leah Frances Cookson Skinner, surrounded by family, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
Leah was born on July 25, 1947 in Hardwick, VT and was a longtime caring member of the Graniteville community. She is predeceased by her parents, Frances M. Clark and Leon R. Cookson and sister, Barbara A. Gray. She was dedicated to her children, Sandy J. Boutin, Tammy A. Turk (deceased), and Christopher A. Skinner; her grandchildren, Joseph Martineau, Belinda Turk, Donald Boutin, Nathaniel Kingsley; and three great grandchildren. She had stepchildren, Tammy Skinner, Mike Skinner, Anne Skinner, and Joan Skinner. She was affectionately called Gram by many others. Leah is survived by siblings, Neal Clark, Donna Outhouse, Leon W. Cookson, Lana Cookson, Alice Kilinicci, Kim Flippin, and stepbrother Patrick Cookson.
Leah never lost her curiosity about life, she loved fishing, cooking, her vast collection of cookbooks, and time spent with her flower and vegetable gardens. Many remember her canning, great tongue pickles, pies, and more. At a family gathering, we might expect to try a recipe we never had before. Most recently, we fell in love with an apple rhubarb pie made with rhubarb from the garden and apples picked and frozen from last season. Which apple do we think she used? Her home, heart, and kitchen were always a welcoming safe haven for all who stopped by or needed respite. Especially at Christmas which was her favorite time of year.
We will celebrate her life on Saturday, July 9, 2016, 11 a.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church, 7868 US Route 2, Plainfield, VT 05667.
A potluck reception will follow at Leon Cookson’s ballroom (formerly Plainfield New & Used Furniture) at the blinking light on US Route 2 in beautiful downtown Plainfield, VT.
