Laurette J. (Duchaine) Scott of Barre City, passed away on October 5, 2017. Although she handled every day with grace and poise, Laurette developed several chronic medical conditions during the past few years which finally became just too difficult to overcome.
She was born on June 11, 1937, in Randolph, Vermont, to Louis N. and Antoinette I. (Chaloux) Duchaine. Laurette often shared her many fond memories of Randolph and of being with her brother, Morris, and her very special aunts, uncles, and cousins.
On December 26, 1955, Laurette married James F. Scott, Sr. They lived in the Barre area, and then settled in East Barre, where they raised their five children in a warm and loving home.
Laurette worked for many years at the Sprague Electric Plant in Barre. When the plant closed, Laurette explored other employment opportunities, but found that she was her own best asset. She opened and, for many years, operated a very successful hearing aid business, and continued to dabble in that business even after she opened Scott’s Home Care Agency. Scott’s Home Care was truly a blessing for the many people who depended upon Laurette to provide loving attention and compassion for their loved one’s final journey. Laurette was a pro who gave her heart to everyone she met.
There is a huge void now. Our Mother/Gram/GG can never be replaced. We are left, however, with so many wonderful memories that do make her larger than life. Laurette’s humor, wit, energy, enthusiasm, and love will live on through her children and grandchildren, whom she treasured above all else: Candy Potrzeba, Randolph; Rose and Robert Jackman, Barre City; James, Jr., and Carie Scott, Raleigh, NC; Louis and Cindy Scott, Plainfield; Gary Scott, East Barre; ten grandchildren who loved her to the moon and back, seven great-grandchildren who worshiped her; and Michael, a very special great-great-grandchild who “loved her too much!” She also leaves behind other special family members and many, many friends who loved her dearly.
Her husband, James, Sr., her parents and her brother, Morris Duchaine predeceased Laurette.
Her Mass of Christian Burial and Life’s Celebration will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre.
Interment will follow at the St. Sylvester Cemetery in Barre Town where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Jim.
