BARRE CITY - Laura Marguerite Campo of Circle Street, 87, passed away at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin on Friday, February 13, 2015, after a long illness. Her family had been at her bedside.
She was born in Barre City on December 6, 1927, the daughter of Peter and Teresa (Franzi) Cavoretto. Laura attended Barre City schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in the Class of 1945. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary at Johnson & Gustafson Granite Company in Barre.
On August 6, 1949, she married Robert N. Campo in the Barre Congregational Church. While a member of the church, she taught Sunday school for a number of years and raised her family. Later, she worked at the Granite Savings Bank and then as a library aide at Spaulding High School.
Laura was a member of the Barre Congregational Church, Ruth Chapter #33 OES, and a Life Member of Charity Chapter #57 OES of Williamstown, and in earlier years a member of the Barre Country Club. She enjoyed the time she had with her family and many friends at her camp on Greenwood Lake, as well as her travels to Italy, the National Parks in the West, and winter vacations in Florida and Myrtle Beach, SC.
Survivors include her husband, Robert N. Campo of Barre City; sons, Norman R. and wife, Beth and Robert J. and wife, Michele of Barre Town, and Alan P. and wife, Susan of Montpelier; as well as grandchildren: Lauren, Stuart, Peter, Caroline, Mary, and Kevin; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her only nephew, Rev. Charles P. Calcagni, as well as a grandniece and grandnephew.
She was predeceased by her parents and sisters, Lina Calcagni and Doris Cavoretto.
Her life will be celebrated with a committal and graveside service at the Hope Cemetery in Barre City at a time to be announced in the spring. There are no calling hours.
