MILTON – Laura L. Biggs, 94, a former long-time resident of Barre, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester.
Born on February 15, 1930, in Barre, she was the daughter of Avenire and Lillie (Cocchi) Fracassi. She attended local elementary schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1948.
In August of 1948, she married Conrad Gingras and as a result had three children, Doug, Leslie and Brian. They would go on to divorce in 1961.
In the efforts to gain employment Laura applied to Smith Whitcomb and Cook where she would meet the love of her life. On October 22, 1962, she married Frank Lewis Biggs in Barre, where they made their home. In 1964 their son Paul was born. Laura’s heart would break on November 1, 1997, by the unexpected passing of her beloved husband.
Laura was employed as an Administrative Assistant at Spaulding High School for over 25 years where she would make many lifelong friends. She was loved by all and was often told that she ran the school. Any time that anyone, students or staff, would need anything Laura was the go-to person that would graciously lend a helping hand.
In her spare time, she enjoyed journaling, scrapbooking, and travel. Most of all she cherished time spent with family and friends.
Laura collected valuable photos dating back to the late 1800’s and organized volumes of scrapbooks which will be valued by her family forever.
Laura has also documented her life and her loved ones with a collection of 1000’s of pages of handwritten journals that outlined the lives of those she loved.
Laura’s other passion was to travel. Her favorite place to visit was Wells, Maine. For much of her adult life she would visit Maine with her husband and children making it a favorite place for all. This was her favorite place to spend her anniversary as well. Also, on her list of favorite places to travel was the island of Bermuda. She made many trips to Bermuda with her husband which created many beautiful and loving memories.
Laura’s primary passion was her unwavering dedication and unconditional love for her family and friends. Her lifetime goals and ambitions revolved around her family. She was the “glue” that brought the family together for any occasion imaginary. She made her house a home and was welcoming to all. All that visited left with a sense of love and caring. She was truly legendary and the icon of the family.
Survivors include her children Doug Gingras and his wife, Cheryl; Leslie Capitano and her partner John; Brian Gingras and his wife, Michelle; and Paul Biggs and his wife, Bonnie as well as nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Frank Lewis Biggs and her sister Sylvia LaCross.
