Kimberly S. Dexter

January 12, 1969 — October 26, 2023

Barre

BARRE - Kimberly Sue Dexter, 54, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at her home with her sisters, son, and dedicated friends by her side. Kim’s bravery and tenacity were unmatched as she courageously fought cancer in the last years of her life; never backing down from the next challenge before finally finding much deserved peace and rest.

Born on January 12, 1969, in Berlin, she was the daughter of Stewart and Pamela (Bowman) Irish. The family resided in Waterbury, where Kim graduated from Harwood Union High School in 1986. Shortly after graduation, on July 12, 1986, Kim married Dick Dunn and went on to have two sons, raising their family in Williamstown, before they divorced in 2006.

Kim was a dedicated, resolute mother with a warm heart. She always welcomed the boy’s friends into her home and treated them as one of her own. So much so that those relationships remained into adulthood, where those friends and family alike mourn the loss of Kim’s contagious smile, laughter, and no-nonsense approach to life.

Not only did Kim raise two children, but she also worked outside the home at Norwich University, where she was part of the Information Technology (IT) Team for over 22 years before moving to Barre, and most recently taking a job at the Chelsea Court House as a Docket clerk.

Never one to rest on her laurels, Kim was always up for an adventure and loved spending time with her friends and family, exploring new places and making new memories. Kim could always be counted on to bring a zest for life to these adventures, whether it was soaking up the sun on the beach - umbrella drink in hand, attending a concert in her snakeskin boots, or casually driving the countryside looking for that perfect picture to capture, singing along to her favorite songs, even if she didn’t know all the words.

Kim loved to bake and would often spoil her grandchildren and niece with birthday cakes of their dreams. Anyone who knew Kim knew she was an avid photographer and one of her favorite ways to showcase this passion was at the many sporting events of her stepsons Max and Gabe Dexter, whom she helped raise and absolutely adored. Kim was a gifted photographer, capturing special moments that will live on for loved ones and friends, long after her passing.

Survivors include her sons Michael Dunn of Williamstown and Christopher Dunn of Brookfield, her sisters Lori Armell and her husband, Brian of Monkton and Donna Atkins of Barre and her two grandchildren Riley and Oliver Dunn as well as three nieces and three nephews. Also surviving Kim is an entire community of friends that rallied to support her in her final years, a true testament to the kind of person Kim was -- a dedicated, loyal soul that could always be counted on to tell it how it was, without wavering in her support.

In addition to her grandparents, Roger and Irene Irish and Andrew and Eva Bowman, she is also predeceased by her parents Stewart and Pamela Irish.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. A private burial in the Maple Street Cemetery in Waterbury will take place at a later date.
