ORANGE – Kenneth M. Cochran, Sr., 90, a longtime resident of Cutler Corner Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2025, at his home.

Born on December 14, 1934, in East Barre, he was the son of Raymond and Evelyn (Gilcris) Cochran. He attended local elementary school and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1954.

Following his schooling, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Navy. He served distinction for over 20 years as a metalsmith, achieving the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer before being honorably discharged in 1975.

On July 8, 1955, Kenneth married the love of his life, Janice McCarthy in a ceremony held in Montpelier. During his Naval Career, they lived in Virginia, Georgia, New Jersey, Maine, Philippines and eventually settled in Orange, Vermont.

Following his service, Kenneth worked as a quarryman in the Wells Lamson and Rock of Ages quarries. He worked also at Smith, Whitcomb and Cook as a fabricator and eventually as a meter reader for Washington Electric Co-op until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Kenneth had a love for both hunting and fishing. He was also a member of the VFW Post 790 in Barre, Moose Club and the Canadian Club.

He is survived by his wife Janice Cochran; his children Kenneth Cochran, Jr., Theodore Cochran, Karen Heinlein and Sari Calvero. He also leaves eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides his parents, Kenneth was predeceased by his siblings Robert Cochran, Donald Cochran, Eleanor Beede, Dorothy White, Coleman Nutbrown, Jr. and Gilbert Nutbrown, grandson TJ Heinlein and six nieces and nephews.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Kenneth’s life and military service will be held in the spring at a time to be announced.
