BARRE-Julie Town Dalton, 68, passed away on Saturday May 2, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on November 9, 1957, at Barre City Hospital to George and Betty Town. She grew up in Websterville alongside her brother, Scot. Julie often spoke fondly of her childhood sharing stories of youth camp at Websterville Baptist, bike rides, tree climbing adventures, and the whole “Websterville crew.” She would often say, “We didn’t have much, but we had a lot of fun.”
She graduated from Spaulding High School in 1976 and began working at National Life, where she built a career that spanned more than 40 years. Along the way, Julie formed many lasting friendships. She had a natural way of stepping in, helping out, and leading others.
Julie married Daryl Dalton in July of 1979, and together they built their home in Barre. In December 1981, they welcomed their daughter, Katie Lynn Dalton. Julie loved her family deeply and was truly a wonderful mother. She took great pride in her home, everything had its place, and it showed in the care she put into it. She loved decorating, was an excellent cook, and especially enjoyed entertaining family and friends. The holidays were her favorite time, when everyone gathered together.
Her favorite place to be was along the coast of Maine, soaking up the sun by the ocean. She vacationed there for many years and always counted down the days until her next visit. She was also Katie’s biggest supporter, front row at every play, concert, and recital, truly her number one fan.
In August 2014, the family grew when Katie married Joshua Lochhead. Together they have three children, Ezra, Avery, and Isla, who quickly became the center of Julie’s world. She was fortunate to care for them from their earliest days through their school years. They looked forward to “Grammie’s” treats, care, and love.
Faith was an important part of Julie’s life. She attended St. Monica’s Church for many years, and even when she was no longer able to attend in person, she continued to read her scriptures daily.
In recent years, Julie and Daryl spent much of their time attending their grandchildren’s sporting events and dance recitals. They were her greatest joy. Her constant love, care, and encouragement will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but we take comfort in knowing she will always have a front row seat.
Julie was predeceased by her father, George Town, and her mother, Betty Town, both of Websterville.
Julie is survived by her husband Daryl, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage; her daughter, Katie Dalton Lochhead, and her husband, Joshua Lochhead; her beloved grandchildren, Ezra, Avery, and Isla Lochhead, all of Barre; her brother, Scot Town (Kathy), of East Barre; and her nephews, Justin Town (Bekah) of Washington and Josh Town (Joanna) of Philadelphia.
Julie loved supporting the food pantry at St. Monica’s Church. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Monica’s Food Pantry, 79 Summer Street, Barre, VT 05641, or online at https://stmonica.vermontcatholic.org/donate.
Calling hours will be held at Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home in Barre on Wednesday, May 20th, 5-7 PM. A service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at St. Monica’s Church in Barre on Thursday May 21st at 11 AM, burial will follow the service at Hope Cemetery in Barre.
