SAG HARBOR, NY - Judy Rana passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2024, with her daughter, Debbie at her side.
The daughter of Arthur and Helene (Bassett) Ross, Judy grew up in East Hampton, New York and was a lifelong resident of Sag Harbor. She spent her most recent years living in Vermont with her daughter Debbie and her son- in-law Michael Tagliavia, and grand-dog Jack.
She was a supportive, kind, and hardworking mother. Before retirement, she worked at Sag Harbor Industries as a line supervisor. There she formed many lifelong friendships.
You could always find Judy sitting quietly, either doing crossword puzzles or reading. She loved books, especially old books. She just enjoyed the feel and smell of an old hard cover library book in her hands. Her main reading interests included American history, Native American history and anthropology. She also loved local history and spent many years searching local “secret spots” for arrowheads, old bottles and relics with her very dear lifelong friend Dot Zaykowski. Together, she and Dot also enjoyed participating in various anthropological digs.
Survivors include her eldest son Ralph (Chip) Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Riverhead NY; her daughter Debbie Tagliavia and her husband, Michael of Corinth VT; and her youngest and most special son Michael of Sag Harbor, NY.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Ralph Rana, who died at the young age of 46.
Per her wishes, there will be no special fuss or services. Please fondly remember her in your own way.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local library, which would mean the world to her.
