BARRE - Joyce Merrill Noyes, 90, a long-time resident of Barre, died Sunday, February 21, 2016, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, surrounded by family members.
She was born, December 2, 1925, in Haverhill, MA to Clifford and Gladys (Philpott) Pingree.
Joyce graduated from Haverhill High School, Haverhill, MA in 1944.
On September 8, 1946, she married Alan H. Noyes and they lived in Haverhill until 1960 when they moved to Barre, VT. After Al retired, they spent winters in Rotunda, Florida where many of their Barre friends also wintered.
Joyce worked for several years doing clerical work prior to having children, then became a homemaker and when her youngest started school, she worked as a part-time bookkeeper at Harvard Clothes.
For many years, Joyce and Al enjoyed square dancing. She loved to sew, knit, bake, bowl and play golf. She was a member of the Barre Country Club and also golfed in Florida. Joyce was a volunteer at the Barre City Hospital Gift Shop and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed dancing and singing in the Hospital Auxiliary Follies Show.
Joyce is survived by her six children and their spouses: Linda Livendale and her husband, Charlie; Bill Noyes and his wife, Diane; Rossie Conklin and her husband, Rick; and Debbie Swartz and her husband, Bill all of Barre; Jon Noyes and his wife, Susette Bollard of Montpelier and Dave Noyes and his companion Cathy Chamberlain of Colchester as well as her 13 grandchildren: Bonnie Livendale Hughart; Jeff and Greg Noyes; Robin Pickel and Heather Pickel Sanders and Brian Conklin; Steven Noyes; Ben and Adam Schersten and Taylor Noyes; Aaron, Scott and Daniel Robinson, and 14 great-grandchildren and two nieces.
Joyce was pre-deceased by her husband Alan Noyes in 2009, and her grandson Joe Livendale in 2004, as well as her brother Clifford Elmo Pingree.
Calling hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Barre Congregational Church, 35 Church Street, Barre. Committal will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center, in the Spring at the convenience of the family.
