BARRE TOWN – Joyce L. (Swift) Isham, 94, of Windy Wood Road passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the Barre Gardens Nursing Home.
Born February 8, 1924 in Orange, she was the daughter of William and Ethel (Flanders) Swift. Joyce attended East Barre Graded School, and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1941. She was carnival queen the same year.
On August 3, 1944, she married Willard Isham in Barre. Following their marriage, they made their home in Barre, moving to East Hill in Barre Town in 1945 and then to their current residence on Windy Wood Road in 1949. Willard passed away on January 15, 2000.
Joyce worked for the State of Vermont, Department of Liquor Control from 1962 until her retirement in 1979.
In her earlier years, her memberships included the Cobble Hill Grange and the Home Demonstration Club. Also, she was a volunteer at Central Vermont Hospital.
Joyce enjoyed reading, watching game shows, flowers, doing crossword puzzles, playing card games and, she enjoyed watching nature.
Survivors include her children, Gary Isham and his wife, Linda of Barre; Gail Goodrich of Michigan; Becky Ross and her husband, Tom of Palm Coast, FL; and Meredith Corliss of Corydon, IN; her grandchildren Erick Russell, Cheryl Rake, Kim Marcotte, Corey Isham, Joanne Isham, Jennifer Gollnick, Lisa Rickel, Nina Hunsicher, and Jason McLeod; as well as twenty-three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Willard Isham; her grandsons Glenn Isham and Eacon Russell; her brothers Dwight Swift, Ken Swift, Allen Swift and Dick Swift; and her sisters-in-law Gracie Swift, Sue Swift, Sandy Swift and Mable Swift.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wilson Cemetery in Lower Websterville. There are no calling hours.
