BARRE - Joseph Taplin, 33, of Barre, passed away tragically in a car accident in the early hours of Saturday, September 13, 2025.
Joe was a vibrant soul with a deep love for life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid reader, and he could often be found lost in the pages of a good book. Music was another lifelong passion. It was a source of comfort and strength through many chapters of his life.
Known for his sharp wit and infectious laugh, Joe had a sense of humor that lit up every room he entered. He brought joy and laughter to those around him and had an incredible gift for making people feel seen, heard, and understood.
Joe took great pride in his work as a truck driver, most recently employed with Deyo and Son. He found fulfillment and freedom on the open road, a career that suited his independent spirit. As most Vermonter’s do, he cherished time by the ocean in Maine and never passed up the chance to crack into a fresh lobster.
But above all, Joe’s greatest joy and proudest role was being a father to his beloved son, Jack Joseph Taplin. Becoming a dad was a dream come true for Joe, and his love for Jack was boundless. Fatherhood brought him happiness and purpose unlike anything else.
Joe is survived by his partner, Georgia Cummings, and their precious son, Jack; his mother, Kelly Hoyt; his father, Roger Taplin; and his sister, Jessica Hood. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He is predeceased by his grandparents, Arthur “Tim” and Lucille Hoyt, and Earl and Leona Taplin, as well as his uncles, Frank Taplin and Sandy Campbell.
Joe’s spirit will live on in the stories he shared, the laughs he gave, and the love he poured into those he cared about most. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. There are no calling hours.
