WILLIAMSTOWN, VT – Joseph “Raymond” Corriveau, 84, of Village View Heights passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, with his family at his bedside.
Born on May 8, 1939, in Graniteville, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Anna (Perreault) Corriveau. He attended St. Sylvester Elementary School in Graniteville and graduated from St. Michael’s High School in Montpelier. Following high school, he obtained certificates in Business Administration and Management and Emergency Management (FEMA).
On January 27, 1962, he married Eileen Jarvis in St. Sylvester’s Church in Graniteville. Following their marriage, they first made their home in Meriden, Connecticut until 1963 when they moved to Graniteville, Vermont and then in 1967 they settled in East Barre, until they became snowbirds living in Ft. McCoy, Florida from 1997 to 2011 at which time they moved back to Vermont, settling in Williamstown.
In earlier years, Raymond worked as a printer, truck driver, welder, and in construction. He also worked in the granite industry, and as an agent for Modern Woodmen Insurance Company. He later was a business owner and partner in Pouliot and Corriveau Trucking, and Village Sales Chain Saw company. He was the Superintendent of Public Works from 1984 to 1995 for the Town of Barre. He served as a Fireman for the Town of Barre Fire Department for over 30 years and was voted Chief from 1995-1997. From 1997 to 2004, he was a Customer Service Representative at Silver Springs Amusement Park in Florida.
Raymond was a Eucharistic Minister in the St. Edwards Catholic Church in Williamstown and in the Lady of the Springs Church in Ocala, Florida. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Barre Lodge of Elks # 1535, and the Canadian Club of Barre for many years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and camping. He spent many happy years at his family camp on Lake Champlain.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen Jarvis Corriveau; his sons Arthur Corriveau (Timothy Horn) and Raymond Corriveau (Pamela Kelso); six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law Yvette Picard as well as seven nieces, ten nephews, and numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Melanie Corriveau Staake, his sister Rita Quinlan (Bill Quinlan), and his brothers Roger and John Corriveau.
The service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours.
