BARRE – John G. Pellon, 89, a longtime resident of Meadowcrest Lane, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 2, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 6, 1929 in Barre City, he was the son of Paul and Josephine (Galli) Pellon. He attended elementary school in Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School as part of the Class of 1947. John then went on to attend Burdett College in Boston where he earned his Associates Degree in Business in 1950.
Following his schooling, John enlisted in the United States Army where he served with distinction in the Korean Theater during the war. He was honorably discharged at the end of hostilities in 1953.
On October 20, 1956, he married the love of his life, Patricia Downing, in the St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Graniteville. The two went on to make their home in the Barre area for the remainder of their lives.
John worked for the State of Vermont for over 34 years. Throughout that time, he held positions in a variety of occupations, beginning as an Auditor and retiring as a Business Manager in 1990.
Some of his memberships included the Barre Kiwanis Club, American Legion Post #10, Granite Masonic Lodge No. 35, and the Mount Sinai Shriners. He also spent time as a volunteer Score Counselor, a Justice of the Peace and sat on the Barre Town Zoning Board.
Throughout his life, John had many hobbies and interests. The most important of those included playing golf, spending summers at the Lone Pine Campground and most importantly being with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Patricia Pellon, of Barre Town; two sons Brian Pellon and his wife, Peggy, of Conroe, TX and Bradley Pellon and his partner, Darlene Stone, of Murfreesboro, TN; his grandchildren Michelle Pellon and her wife, Hailey, of Houston, TX, Nicholas Pellon and Laura Murphy of West Springfield, MA, Jennifer Sledge and her husband, Andrew, of Jackson, LA, and Bethany Kukura and her husband, Beau, of Erie, CO; and his great-grandchildren Marie Pellon of Houston, TX and Braxton and Berklee Kukura of Erie, CO. He also leaves his sister in law Janet Lambert and her husband, Maurice, and brother in law Richard Downing, both from FL, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and granddaughter Katherine Pellon.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate John’s life will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hope Cemetery in Barre. Family and friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
