GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA – John D. Chadwick, 78, died Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center there, having been admitted from The Golden Living Nursing Home, also in Greenville.
Born June 18, 1937 in New York City, he was the son of John F. and Doris (Rice) Chadwick.
He was a graduate of St. Peter’s Episcopal Prep School in Peekskill, NY in 1955 and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from the University of Vermont in Burlington in 1959 and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. John later attended The Graduate Studies Program in Textiles at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.
On January 21, 1966 he married Patricia A. Morin in Boston, Massachusetts, making their home in Piscataway, NJ, Warren, VT, South Burlington, Hog Island in West Swanton and since 1989, in Greenville, N. Carolina.
In his earlier working career, John was employed in the textile industry and his research team invented and developed the permanent press fabric. After he and his family moved to Vermont, John became a real estate developer and was very involved with the housing industry in the Chittenden County area.
While in High School, he was a member of his high school football and basketball teams and enjoyed all sports. John was an avid New York Yankee Baseball fan.
During the Cubin Missile Crisis, he served in the United States Army.
His memberships included St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Greenville, N. Carolina, The New York Athletic Club, the former Ethan Allen Club in Burlington, the Barre Elks Lodge #1535 and he was an active member of the Pirate Club of East Carolina University, which supports their athletic programs. He also had been secretary of the New York Chapter of the UVM Alumni Association.
Besides his wife, Patricia, he leaves his son John A. Chadwick, also of Greenville, N. Carolina.
John’s life will be honored and celebrated at a time to be announced in the Spring of 2016 in Barre.
