BARRE – John “Big John” Blake, 73, of Summer Street, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 26, 1943 in Barre, he was the son of Arthur and Noella (Tremblay) Blake. John attended Wells River Elementary School and graduated from Wells River High School in the Class of 1961. After high school, he joined the National Guard and served from 1961 to 1967.

On July 3, 1971, John married Jacquelynn Diana Hobbs in Bradford. Following their marriage, they made their home in Barre.

John was first employed as a lineman for Western Union. Later, he was a driver for Powers Rubbish Company for many years and until retirement worked part-time delivering parts for Bond Auto.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 20 of Woodsville, NH. In his spare time, John enjoyed camping, ice fishing, playing horseshoes, going to deer camp and hunting, and watching NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie of 45 years; his daughters, Shelley Reed and Nikki Ariste; his stepdaughter Stormy Williams, all of Barre; and his grandchildren, Olivia, Zackary, and Evan.    He was predeceased by his parents.

Per John’s wishes, there are no services planned.
