WASHINGTON – Jody Real Grandbois, 60, a longtime resident of West Corinth Road, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Born July 28, 1959 in Barre City, he was the son of Laurent and Estelle (Poulin) Grandbois. He attended elementary school at the Washington Village School and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1977.

Following his schooling, Jody worked all over the state for many years as a heavy equipment operator. He eventually worked for Duranleau Construction and for Jeff Moran at Moran Construction. He then went on to the large equipment at Northeast Materials in Graniteville and worked with Watershed Construction. He also taught a heavy equipment operation class for women in New Hampshire.

Throughout Jody’s life he had many hobbies and interests. The most important of those was being with his grandsons, ice fishing, being an avid hunter, calling turkeys, taking walks in the woods and spending time with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his good nature and great sense of humor.

Survivors include his longtime partner Lori Thurber of Washington; his daughter Jessica Grandbois and her partner, Evan Allen, of Orange; two stepdaughters Jennifer Beaucage and Heather Smith; two grandsons and five step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother Estelle Grandbois of Florida; his brother Joel Grandbois and his wife, Ann of Washington; two sisters Laurie Zagaris and her husband, Varnavas of Florida and Liselle Emery and her husband, Tom of Florida as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his grandparents, he was predeceased by his father Laurent and his brother-in-law Daniel Emery.

A graveside service to honor Jody’s life will be held in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Washington at the convenience of the family in the spring.
