PLAINFIELD – Joanne C. Martin, 84, of Hollister Hill Road passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at her home surrounded by family.
Born on September 26, 1941, in Barre, she was the daughter of Cresswell and Dorothy (Willey) Codling. She attended Marshfield Elementary School and graduated as class Salutatorian from Marshfield High School. Following graduation she attended Champlain College, Community College of Vermont and the ADP program at Norwich University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree on June 25, 2000.
On June 15, 1963, she married Stanley Martin in the Grace United Methodist Church in Plainfield. Following their marriage, they made their home in Plainfield until 1973 when they moved to Marshfield.
Joanne was first employed by the State of Vermont Adoption Services Division before joining the staff at the Developmental Disabilities Division as an Administrative Assistant. After leaving employment with the State, she joined the staff of The Health Center in Plainfield as a Medical Secretary and was also co-owner of Country Floors with her husband until her retirement in 2023.
Her memberships included the Grace United Methodist Church where she was a trustee for many years, Kingsbury Chapter OES #77 past Worthy Matron and life member initiated on November 1, 1966, former Twin Valley Senior Center exercise leader, former Home Dem member and Jaycee wife. She also was a softball scorekeeper for many years.
Joanne was a philanthropist with many local organizations benefitting from her efforts including the Plainfield Fire and Rescue, Twinfield Softball, Twin Valley Senior Center, Plainfield Methodist Church, and the Wyoming Lodge #80.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking – she was well known in the community for the best homemade cider doughnuts, and sporting events especially the Red Sox. Joanne truly enjoyed traveling with her family and friends and working on the family farm.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley Martin, her daughter Kimberly Potter and her husband, Michael; her sons Christopher Martin and his wife, Laurie; and Patrick Martin and his wife, Karin; her eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and her sister Patricia Fair as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her dearest cousin and best friend Theresa Goslant.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Creswell Coding, David Codling, and Donald Codling.
A celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of family.
