TUCSON, AZ – Joan Eisenwinter Thompson, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at the Villa Maria Care Center where she had been a long-time resident.
Born in Elizabethtown, NJ on March 25, 1932, she was the daughter of Lloyd E. and Esther J. (Cumming) Eisenwinter.
As an infant, she came to Barre with her parents and attended local schools, graduating from Spaulding High School in the class of 1950. Joan became a member of the Barre Congregational Church, where she was a soloist. For several years, she was a telephone operator at the New England Telephone Company.
In 1956, she married John Lacroix of Barre in St. Monica’s Catholic Church. Soon afterwards they moved to San Gabriel, CA where he owned a night club. They divorced in 1962.
Joan then moved to Tucson, AZ where she worked in several offices and lived with her parents.
In 1991, she married Harold Thompson, he died in 1998.
Joan enjoyed music for which she had professional training, and was an accomplished soloist at public gatherings. She likewise studied art specializing in oils on canvas.
Survivors include her brother, Allan Eisenwinter and his wife, Jimmie, of LaVerne, CA, her sister-in-law Jeannie Eisenwinter of Ellenton, FL; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert Eisenwinter, and her sister Dorothy Peck.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at the Villa Maria Care Center in Tucson, AZ. Interment will be in the Cumming Mausoleum in Elmwood Cemetery in Barre.
