Joan S. Parnigoni

BARRE CITY – Joan Starr Parnigoni, 81, of Tremont Street, died unexpectedly Saturday night, April 11, 2015 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin with her family at her bedside.
Born May 6, 1933 in Schenectady, NY she was the daughter of Bernard F. and Florence (Canton) Starr, Sr. She grew up in Barre, attending Barre Schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1951. In 1953 she received her Associate’s Degree with honors from Vermont Junior College in Montpelier.
On August 20, 1955 she married Richard F. Parnigoni in St. Monica Catholic Church. Most of their married life had been spent in Barre and at their present home for almost 50 years.
Joan will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend and in later years as Office Manager of her husband’s optometry practice on Washington Street in Barre City.
She is a long-time communicant of St. Monica Catholic Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves her 2 daughters Starr Ann LeCompte and her husband, Kevin, of Montpelier and Erin Lopez-Gomez and her husband, Mario, of Fairfax, Virginia and her son Richard F. Parnigoni, Jr., of Boston as well as 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, her son Robert, her brother Bernard F. Starr, Jr. and cousin, Helen Valsangiacomo.
The Mass of Christian Burial to honor her life will be celebrated on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 11:00a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church.
Friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre on Thursday from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
