MONTPELIER – It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our sister, Joan M. Gendron, 68, of Main Street, ended her life on Monday, December 15, 2025, at her home.
Born on September 23, 1957, in the Barre City Hospital, she was the daughter of Leopold and Patricia (Smith) Gendron.
Joan attended Spaulding Graded School and graduated from Spaulding High School. After graduation, she enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a PV2, Personnel Records Specialist until she was honorably discharged.
She first made her home in Barre then moved to Montpelier.
Joan worked at Rock of Ages, Sprague Electric, Central Vermont Medical Center and was also a self-employed painter.
She was an active member of the AA Community Program and was proud to be 35+ years sober. Additionally, Joanie volunteered for the Alzheimer’s and Kidney Associations, as well as a community volunteer with the City of Montpelier helping with the cleanup efforts after the recent back-to-back floods. She was also a member of the Gusto’s Softball and Broomball teams.
In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, doing odd jobs, and helping others throughout the community. Most of all she loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her sister Kathleen Chatot (Phil) of Georgia, VT; her brother Tim Gendron of Essex Jct., VT and his partner Margie Rosenblatt of Burlington, VT; her sister Eileen Robison (John) of Ohio; her sister Marie Brock (Tom) of Barre, VT; her sister Margie Fournier (Norman) of East Barre, VT; her sister Ellen Greenough (Brad) of Barre, VT; her sister Jean Gosselin (Gary) of Washington, VT; and her sister-in-law Jody Buttura Gendron as well as 20 nieces and nephews and 29 grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Maureen and Patrick Gendron.
There will be no calling hours. Instead, there will be a Celebration of Life for Joanie on January 31, 2026, at Gusto’s on 21 Prospect St. in Barre from 2pm to 8pm. Food and beverages will be provided for all who wish to attend and celebrate Joanie with her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter, 75 Talcott Road, Suite 40, Barre, VT 05641.
