BARRE CITY – Joan Mae Denno, 74, of Maple Avenue, died peacefully Sunday afternoon, November 22, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born November 7, 1941 in Berlin, she was the daughter of Stanley and Lillian (Massey) Carroll and was a graduate of Spaulding High School in 1959.
On June 24, 1989 Joan married Wilfred J. Denno, Jr., at St. Monica’s Catholic Church. They spent their entire married life at their present home where Wilfred died August 27, 2011.
She was first employed at the former Sprague Electric Company in Barre and then the Capital City Press as a proof checker, until they closed. Later Joan worked in the Central Vermont Hospital Cafeteria which she loved, retiring in 2011.
Gardening, knitting, entertaining her grandchildren and the family camp at South Hero were things she enjoyed.
Survivors include her daughters, Sondra Franks and her husband, Billy; Kim Hastings and her husband, Jeff Untiedt; Cindy Foster and her husband, Nick; Cindy Conti and her husband, Nicholas; Lori Hudson and her husband, Matt; Tammy Cone and her husband, Duncan and Carol Hastings and sons: Wade and Fred Hastings and Tony and Daniel Denno and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Also surviving is her brother, Stanley Carroll and his wife, Mary, and her sister June Carroll and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Fred Hastings, her parents, and 2 brothers Ed and Francis Carroll and her sister Beverly Allen.
Per Joan’s wishes there are no formal services planned.
A gathering for family and friends to remember her will be held Friday, November 27 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Barre American Legion Post #10 Banquet Room, 340 N. Main Street, Barre.
