WILLIAMSTOWN – Jerome Vaughan, 91, of The Gardens passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
Born on June 12, 1933, in Norwich, he was the son of George and Beatrice (Emerson) Vaughan. He attended Union Village, Boston, and Thetford Hill elementary schools and graduated from Thetford Academy in 1951. He attended the University of Vermont obtaining a BS of Science and Education and graduated from there in 1958.
In September 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War in Germany and France and was honorably discharged.
On June 21, 1958, he married Katherine Burnham in the Hartford Congregational Church in Hartford. Following their marriage, they made their home in Hartford, Northfield, Randolph, and Montpelier before settling in East Montpelier. Katherine passed away on July 31, 2022.
Jerome was a schoolteacher for many years in the Northfield, Randolph, and Montpelier school system. He had incredible patience, kindness and always made time to help his students and was remembered as a great teacher. After leaving teaching he joined the State of Vermont working as a records clerk in several departments before he retired.
Jerome loved his family and community and served in many areas including as a Sunday school teacher, farm league baseball coach, volunteer reader at school and helper at Montpelier Senior Center to name a few. He was always willing to help out wherever needed. He loved spending time with his wife and family and enjoyed square dancing and music.
Survivors include his daughter Ellen Light of Randolph and his son, Mark Vaughan and his wife, Renee of Saginaw, Texas as well as his five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Katherine, and his sister and brothers.
Jerome was always kind and thoughtful and will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date to be determined.
