BARRE TOWN – Jean Marie Ruel, 77, of Quarry Hill Road, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 27, 1938 in Barre City, she was the daughter of Eugene and Myrtle (Bedell) Allard. She attended elementary school in Graniteville and was a graduate of the Williamstown High School Class of 1956.
On July 12, 1958, she married Richard Ruel at the St. Sylvester Church in Graniteville. Following their wedding they made their home on Brooklyn Street in Barre for several years and eventually moved to their longtime residence on Quarry Hill. They later established homes in Naples, Florida and on Malletts Bay in Colchester.
Jean worked as the bookkeeper for R & R Granite for many years as well as being an outstanding homemaker for their family.
She had many hobbies and interests, but her favorite things to do were going bowling, playing bingo and gambling. She also loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; four sons, Richard Ruel Jr. and his wife, Sue Ann, of Florida, Robert Ruel and his wife, Annie, of Montpelier, Roger Ruel and his wife, Rebecca, of Williamstown and Ryan Ruel of Orange; her daughter Cynthia of Florida, as well as nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Mickey Allard, and two sisters, Gail Sayers and Margo Budrow.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Allen Allard.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jean will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Graniteville. Family and friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre on Monday, July 25, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m.
