MONTPELIER – Janet Campbell Reed, 74, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin where she had been a resident for the past five years.
Born on December 10, 1942, she was the daughter of Frederick and Jane Reed. Janet lived most of her life in Montpelier.
She was one of the first attendees of the Green Mountain School, of which her parents were among the founders. Her parents were also instrumental in organizing the Central Vermont Association for Retarded Citizens, whose programs and activities Janet enjoyed much of her life. She was among the first group of campers to attend Silver Towers Camp, originally in Brookfield.
Janet worked at the Green Mountain Nursery School for Special Children, at the Vermont State Library, and then for 26 years at the National Life Cafeteria.
She enjoyed concerts, bowling, and traveling. During her stay at Woodridge, she enjoyed Bingo, art classes, and other activities.
Survivors include her brother William and his wife, Brynne of Orange; three nephews David (Jill Pruitt) Reed of Barre; Michael (Amy Paulsen) Reed of Burlington, MA; and Paul Reed of Bristol, VT; a niece Christy (Brody) Henderson of Memphis, TN; and several grandnieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Community Alliance Church on Route 302 in Orange, VT. There are no calling hours.
