WILLIAMSTOWN – Janet M. Fielder, 88, a long-time resident passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin with her family at her bedside.
Born October 8, 1930 in Northampton, MA she was the daughter of Nickodem and Blanche (Kowalski) Matusezewski, the final child joining four brothers and four sisters.
Janet graduated from Northampton High School in 1949.
On July 24, 1949 she married Paul H. Fielder in Sharon, VT. Following their marriage, they first made their home in Mt. Tom, MA before moving and settling in Williamstown, VT where they lived for 45 years. Paul passed away in 1994. On July 1, 2000, she married James A. Murray, Jr,; they made their home in Barre and Port Orange, Florida.
Janet was employed at F.W. Sickles, Inc., in Chicopee, MA before moving to Vermont. She worked at Sprague Electric in Barre before she became a librarian and class aide at Williamstown Elementary School, retiring in October of 1992.
In her spare time, Janet enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing, swimming, and camping. She also did different crafts and was a 4-H teacher in Williamstown for many years.
Survivors include her children Carl H. Fielder, II of Cabot, VT; Paula B. Bonacorsi of Green Valley, AZ; Rebecca M. Hodge of Chesapeake, VA; stepdaughters Nancy Charlton and her husband, Chuck of Port Orange, FL; Sue O’Brien and her husband, Richard of Westwood, MA; Janet Scanlan and her husband, Mike of Jamaica, MA; stepson James Murray, III and his wife, Cathy of Westwood, MA; granddaughters Angela Bonacorsi; Karena Bonacorsi and Andrea Hodge; grandsons Aaron Fielder and his wife, Morgan; Christopher Hodge and Michael Bonacorsi; six great-granddaughters Ava, Sophia, and Lexi Scribner, Sage and Sasha Fielder, and Zoe MacKenzie; as well as many step-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Paul H. Fielder, her son James Fielder, granddaughter Amy Scribner and her eight siblings Stella, Jessie, Nellie, Helen, Lewis, Raymond, Zigmond, and Joseph.
The service to celebrate and honor her life will be held on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Williamstown United Federated Church, Main Street, Williamstown. Following the service, interment will take place in the East Brookfield Cemetery, Route 14, Brookfield. There are no calling hours.
