James A. Lawson

WEBSTERVILLE – James A. Lawson, 79, of Church Hill Road, a lifelong resident of Websterville and longtime owner of Lawson’s Store, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Born on April 25, 1937 in Barre, he was the son of Alfred George and Florence (Finnigan) Lawson.

Jim attended Websterville Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School with the class of 1955. After high school he attended the University of Vermont where he majored in accounting, before joining the U.S. Army National Guard serving at the Barre Armory.

On August 29, 1959 he married Beverlee Fisher in the St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Barre. After their marriage they made their home in Websterville.

Jim owned and operated Lawson’s Store in Websterville with his wife Beverlee for 58 years. The store currently sells bike passes for the Millstone Trails Association. In 2015, he was named Barre Town Citizen of the Year.

His memberships include the St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Graniteville, the Barre Lodge of Elks #1535, the Canadian Club of Barre Town, and the American Legion Post #10 of Barre.

In his spare time Jim enjoyed snowmobiling, he was a past President of the Barre Town Thunder Chickens and he was an avid Red Sox fan.

Survivors include his wife Beverlee of Websterville; his son Bradley Lawson of Websterville; and his granddaughter Moire Lawson also of Websterville; his sisters Janet Hutchins and her husband, Edward of Websterville and Jean LaCross and her husband, Richard of Milton; as well as one niece Susan Mobley and five nephews, John LaCross, Mark Hutchins, Michael Hutchins, Peter Hutchins, and Tom Dean.

He was predeceased by his parents.

A service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Entombment will be in the Wilson Cemetery Columbarium. There are no calling hours.
